Good practices about breastfeeding: Application of the form of observation and assessment of suckling

Abstract
Objective:
Evaluate the suckling at the first 24 hours post parturition, with the application of the Form of Observation and Assessment of suckling preconized by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Children’s Rights & Emergency Relief Organization (UNICEF), in puerperal women and their respective babies hospitalized to the maternity from a teaching hospital from Brazil.
Method:
it is a observational descriptive study, which has transversal character, performed during April, May and June of 2014, having 20 pairs of mother/newborn.
Results:
Through study it was found that 40% of puerperal women presented difficulties related to the breasts, 20% of them were their first breastfeeding, and 10% of the babies had difficulties related to the first breastfeeding.
Conclusion:
the application of the Survey of Observation and Evaluation of Suckling allowed an approaching focused on the aspects that need intervention, which shows it self feasible as a care practice.
