Microbiological identification and profile of antimicrobial resistance in hospitalized children
DOI: 10.31508/1676-3793201700007
Abstract
Objective:
To determine the microbial incidence and resistance profile of microorganisms among hospitalized children in pediatric units.
Methods:
Research made through the collection of swabs for surveillance of children in a University Hospital in the North of Paraná, in the time lapse from June to December, 2015.
Results:
173 children were observed as participants of the study, and 41% were submitted to at least one invasive procedure throughout hospitalization time, being the central venous catheter the most prevalent one, with 44%. More than half of these participants (77%) received at least one antimicrobial. 24% of the children showed positive swab, with the identification of 64 species of multi-resistant bacteria, and, among those, there was a prevalence of Gram-negative, with 72%. And in concerning their resistances, 45% were producers of the beta-lactamase enzyme with extended spectrum.
Conclusion:
The data thus obtained showed high frequency of invasive procedures and use of antimicrobials in children, as well as multi-resistance in Gram-negatives.
