Daily routine for parents of burn-victims children after hospital discharge

Abstract
Objective:
To capture the experiences of the parents in the family routine adjustment, after their burn-victim child got discharge from hospital care.
Method:
Descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study carried with parents of children burn victims who remained hospitalized out in a center for burn treatment. Data collection occurred from May to June 2013 with recorded interviews using a semi-structured instrument.
Results:
15 parents were interviewed and from the discourses emerged two categories, the first “Back to the home: reestablishing the everyday” that showed the adjustments in routine after discharge and, the second, “Scars: a social wound” that addressed the suffering experienced by parents because of the burn scars after hospital discharge.
Conclusion:
Parents are the fundamental connection to the successful treatment of the burned child. Thus, health professionals need to get closer, to know them better, support them and guide them in home care.
