The humanization of nursing team in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: design, applications and interference in humanized care

Abstract

This is an exploratory descriptive study with qualitative approach, which aimed to understand nursing team conceptionabout humanized care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and identify possible factors that may affect the applicability of humanized care. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview. With 11 members of nursing staff at a maternity hospital located in São Paulo. Data analysis, showed the following categories: at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, humanization is seen as closeness of parents; is it understood as humane and appropriate individualized assistance, providing comfort to the patient; the complexity of the NICU routines generate factors that affect the applicability of the humanized care and possibilities to improve such assistance. It was evident that there are a diversity on the nurse concept humanized care that interferences on its application due to the complexity of routine and NICU.
