A guidebook of central venous semi-implantable catheter for the child’s family caregivers

Abstract
Objectives:
to elaborate a guidebook for family caregivers with information about the management of the central venous semi-implantable catheters at home.
Methodology:
phase I: a literature review at databases Medline, OVID and LILACS to access theoretical evidences; phase II: the elaboration of a protocol of catheter’s management. Phase III a guidebook was elaborated based on the protocol.
Conclusion:
the involvement of the family in the care is relevant to improve the treatment at home with correct information of how to manipulate the catheter. A guidebook is essential because it guarantee a safe context for the family to care for their loved member while living the illness experience.
