Abstract
This is an account that uses a qualitative approach to describe the correlation which exists between the authors’ experience as members of a group of voluntary paramedics of Rio de Janeiro and as nursing undergraduates of a public university in the same city. Its main objective is to provide the nurses with information about the importance, not only of a correct approach to the pediatric victim but also of the knowledge of the first evaluations and interventions to be accomplished in this phase. The data that made the description of this study possible were extracted from a participative observation and a bibliographic review. One concluded that few people know to give a good basic assistance to the child who has an accident before an institutional attendance is effectually given to it.
