Abstract
In this study we sought to find out whether nursing professionals take the care to bring the mother close to the child being cared for during Post-Anesthetic Recovery. Objective: to demonstrate the importance of the presence of the mother as part of nursing care for children during PAR as a means of communication and avoiding the child suffering psychological traumas. This is a qualitative approach where we seek to find out whether the nursing professionals value the possibility of one of the parents staying with the child during PAR. considering this care as a means of communication. Two analysis categories emerged: UNAPPLIED KNOWLEDGE: because the nurses do not put into practice what they know about the presence of the mother; REPRODUCING a TASK: because the assistants copy what the nurses do – they do not bring the mother close to the child. We concluded that these professionals need to understand the presence of the mother as a sensitive care that involves communication and is capable of avoiding traumas to the children.
