“My Peripheral Venopuncture”: an educational material to child’s education for the procedure

Abstract

Objective:

To develop an educational and instructional material, in order to prepare child and their families to peripheral venopuncture puncture guided by ultrasound,

Methods:

In the first phase, a bibliographic study was conducted in to provide theoretical foundations. In the second phase, a field research with qualitative approach was conducted, to understand the needs of information of the child and their parents, and to know the nurse’s expertise. Third phase: the manual was developed.

Results:

Data from the literature and field research supported the development of the booklet called “My Peripheral Venopuncture”, which includes fun and interactive way to prepare the child and their family.

Conclusion:

It is expected that the manual promotes the child’s understanding about the procedure, clarifying questions, encouraging their participation and development of their autonomy, as well as their parents.
