Abstract

Aim:

verify the applicability of the manual “My Peripheral Intravenous Puncture” according to the nurse’s viewpoint.

Method:

a descriptive study. The data collection was held during a workshop with the participation of 35 nurses, 80.0% answered a questionnaire regarding to nurse’s identification and the manuals’ assessment.

Results:

the manual was classified as optimal in clarity of information (60.7%), and ease of understanding (67.8%). Most nurses found that it contains fundamental information for children to understand the intravenous puncture, the maintenance and removal of the catheter. Also the appearance, the language, the illustration, the sequence and the quality of the photos were considered excellent. The 92.8% of the nurses found that the images could be interesting for children, and the 89.3% found that the applicability of the manual could be useful to prepare children for the venipuncture.

Conclusion:

the manual was considered an instrument capable of assisting in the improvement of nursing care provided to child and family.
