Childhood deads

Abstract

With the implantation of the Committee for Prevention of childhood Mortality in the State of Paraná, a work has been launched in order to investigate about these deaths. In the 15ᵃ Regional de Saúde of the State, where there is a predominance of precocious mortality for the newborns, the deaths of newborns wuith less than 1.500g represent one third of the infantile deaths in the early months of 1999. Being so a high rate it would be necessary to establish priorities of investigation according to this range of weight. To subsidize this definition was the purpose of this present study. Through the Information System about the LiveBorn, the libornes occurred in the counties of 15ᵃ Regional de Saúde, with less than 1.500g by the time of delivery, between January and april 1999, were characterized. Through death certificates it was observed the occurrence of deaths in this population, at the same time. Taking intyo consideration the results, it was decided to investigate primarily the deaths above 1.000g
