Abstract
The study aimed to determine characteristics of intravascular volume replacement and inotropic drugs administration in children with septic shock, in the initial phase of attendance in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Retrospective study of documentary analysis. Were studied 19 children, with 22 records of initial care, predominantly infants and male, 31,6% died duo to septic shock. Among the 29 catheters used in 22 attendances, 31.0% were peripheral intravenous lines and 69.0% central lines. The solution most applied was saline solution (60.6%) and albumin (24.3%). In 63.6% episodes the volume of solution managed was inferior of 20ml/kg and in 36.4% between 20 to 60ml/kg. It was verified that dobutamine and dopamine were the drugs most used. Nurses have an important role in the early identification of clinical signs of sepsis or septic shock and prompts intervention of in collaboration with other clinicians in order to restore clinical alterations.
