Abstract
In pediatric oncology, nurses witnesses daily the struggle and suffering of the child and his or her family. By living the illness experience, the family must share the responsibility for their child’s care with the health care team in order to get help and support. The aim of this paper is to present a theoretical reflection on the moral commitment of nurses in the care of the family of a child with cancer, based on Family-Centered Care Philosophy. The family is the primarily responsible for the health care of its members and a constant in the child’s life. So to promote care nurses must engage in an authentic relationship, based on a face-to-face contact, looking at it as the subject of its own caring, sharing experiences and engaging with their needs. This moral commitment must be guided by ethical principles of justice, beneficence and autonomy with responsibility and scientific knowledge.
