Developmental care of premature neonate: literature review

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the knowledge in the scientific literature available on interventions geared to the premature development. We performed a literature search in databases systems involving national and international journals published in the period 1997 to 2007. The data were categorized into five areas: pre-natal care and prevention of fetal and neonatal risk, and prematurity as a risk factor for development; reasons of care focused development and interventions geared to the premature. The results point to the need to invest in research on clear delineation of interventions, studies that show evidence of the effects of focused care for the development of premature and results in the short and long term.
