WHEN PLAYING IS CARE FOR CHILD: STUDENT NURSES AND NURSING CARE IN HOSPITAL CHILDREN WITH HIV/AIDS

Abstract

This qualitative study with descriptive approach had an objective to identify a vision of sutdent nurses about playing as a way of taking care children with HIV/AIDS in hospital stay situation; to describe a playing strategies adopted by them in caring for those smalls clients; to discuss repercussions of using play by them in their background and how to learn about effective children interaction. Student nurses of 7th and 8th periods from one public federal university, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil participated as a subject of research. The informations were collected through free meeting and recording. Three categories emerged from the analysis: Playing and taking care of child; playing and relieving suffer from overload in hospital stay; playing and bonding to child. The students pointed out playing as an important tool to promote interaction and bonding to children, despite hospital staying and HIV/AIDS condition, because of their singularities.
