Abstract
A descriptive study purpose showed the restraining device to limit the child’s motion arm in intravenous (IV) therapy designed for preventing them from “child’s restrained arm IV therapy syndrome” (anxiety, pain, fear and sadness). Describing it required an observation and documentation of marked signals upon the child’s body, which were discussed under the standpoint of several sciences (physics, psychomotricity, psychology and biomechanics) by seeing the arm like a leverage system. The study result pointed to the knowledge needs stemming from many sorts of sciences during the nursing care procedures by turning all its complexity legitimizing, whatever simpler it could seem to be. However, the nursing care linked to those knowledge fields enabled designing the device already patented by Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial (the copyright Brazilian institution).
