DOI: 10.31508/1676-379320220011
Abstract
Objective
To analyze, in the literature, the interventions and care performed by nurses in the first consultation with newborns in primary care.
Methods
Integrative review carried out in the second half of 2020, by accessing the data bases PubMed, LILACS, CINAHL and Web of Science. Using the descriptors: Infant, Newborn; Nursing; Primary Care Nursing; Primary Health Care; Physical Examination; Growth and Development; Neonatal Screening; Nursing Care; Education, Nursing; Child Care. Inclusion criteria: period between 1999 and 2019; Portuguese, English and Spanish languages; full and free texts. And the steps followed considered defining the research topic; literature search; categorization of studies; evaluation of the included manuscripts; interpretation of results; synthesis of evidence.
Results
The search resulted in 2.360 articles, of which 98 studies read in full and nine included for analysis. Data collection was performed using a validated extraction protocol adapted for this study. Among the care actions aimed at the neonate are clinical evaluation, home visits, food and nutrition, interprofessionality in childcare, newborn hygiene, neonatal screening, immunization and the focus on sensitive attention to the care of the mother/puerperal.
Conclusion
The findings contribute to ratifying the importance of nurses offering expanded care to the newborns and their mothers, upon arrival at primary care, soon after birth. The study points out the need for further research on the nurse’s consultation and the stimulus for the records of the care provided by the nurse to the newborns and their families.
