Abstract

This study reports the experiences of “Play in aiding the child and family: the status of art, practice and research in nursing”, part of the Post-Graduation Program in Nursing of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo [Federal University of São Paulo]. The study was aimed at describing the Dramatic Therapeutic Play session held with a hospitalized autistic child, and analyze the child’s manifestations based on Winnicott’s theoretical assumptions. We knew the relevance of Therapeutic Play; however, playing with an autistic child was a challenge. It was concluded the Dramatic Therapeutic Play session was effectively performed. The autistic child confirmed this by waving and sending us kisses at the end of the session.
