Abstract

Hospitalization of children is a situation that can trigger reactions like fear, stress, regression and insecurity, causing great suffering to children and their families. To help in to her cope and face this hostile situation, the toy / play has been a useful and beneficial resource. The study presents an experience report on the establishment and implementation of a itinerant Toy library in the pediatric ward of a hospital in the interior of São Paulo. This practice was characterized by challenges related to lack of space, and resistance by part of the team. The play / toy inside the pediatric ward met an important ally in connection with these children, who were able to express feelings related to hospitalization, revealing a variety of situations faced and not always expressed. The idea of this work is that the “Itinerant toy library” brings comfort and joy for hospitalized children.
