Practice safe sex in the daily life of teens

Abstract

A descriptive study was conducted with 500 adolescents of both sexes, between 12 and 18 years old in two schools of elementary and middle school located in the town of Embu das Artes, São Paulo. Goal: It aimed to characterize the study population, identify behaviors related to sexuality; investigate the use of condoms as preventive practice, identify access to condoms. Method: we used a semi-structured questionnaire, with self-administered 29 question multiple-choice and a set of figures for the organization of the sequence of placing the condom. Results: the results showed that 68% of the population seeking information about sexuality, and parents as the primary source (36%), 38.6% had at least one a boyfriend/ a girlfriend, 78% thought their virginity important, 85.4% heterosexual, 30.6% with sexual initiation, 73.8% of these started with 14 years or less, 58.8% had first sex with boyfriend / girlfriend and 47.7% were using condoms.
