Care to child based on Programa Médico de Família Niterói (RJ-Brazil) healthcare model

Abstract

The Fundação Municipal de Saúde de Niterói-RJ – Brazil has been developing since 1992 a program of whole attention to health, called Programa Médico de Família (Medical Program of Family). Inspired in the Cuban experience on medicine of family and adapted to the municipal realities, the Program aimed to preserve the humanistic view of the social role of the health teams, leading the medical service to the most needy communities. There arc several areas of employment and with actions turned to the people from the birth to the third age. We present in this article the care to the child by the model of the familiar health and the qualification for nurses turned to this action. The actions of care to the child health contemplate a health vigilance system that begins since the pregnancy, at the prenatal stage. The unit of child health intends to prepare nurses to the development of a professional practice followed by the promotion aspects, of the care, and of the education on family health under the dimension of the child health, looking for a critical reflection about concepts and principles that substantiate this health practice.
