DOI: 10.31508/1676-3793201600007
Abstract
Objective:
To report the experience of the nursing care dealing with a case of a child with ichthyosis.
Method:
this was a case report conducted in the Pediatric Inpatient Unit at a University Hospital in Southern Brazil. The child’s guardian agreed and signed the Voluntary Informed Consent Form. The study complied with Resolution 466/12.
Discussion:
ichthyotic skin has impaired barrier function with an increased risk of absorbing physical and chemical agents and microorganisms. Therefore, a preventive isolation and temperature control were maintained along with daily hygiene with soap and use of emollients and petrolatum base products to promote skin flexibility and movement avoiding blood stasis. Eye protection due to ectropion was performed with ointment and lubricating eye drops until surgical correction.
Conclusion:
The care provided corroborates the observed scientific evidence.
