DOI: 10.31508/1676-3793201200008
Abstract
The present study aimed at elaborating educational materials about type l Diabetes Mellitus for patients and families from the Pediatric Clinic at USP University Hospital. The creation of the manual as well as the drawings was done by the authors. A survey on the number of children with the diagnosis in a five year period was carried out; meetings were held with the group for the definition of content and drawings which would best promote interactivity. The manual presents the story of a character, bearer of type l Diabetes Mellitus, who reports in an interactive way how his symptoms first appeared, and informs ways in which to deal with the condition. The elaboration of the educational Manual is an important pedagogical resource to be used by nursing professionals. It promotes the educational process by transforming the abstract through building children’s imaginary space in all age groups, and promoting their participation in the process as subject of the story in a playful manner.
