Abstract
It is about a qualitative research with the objective to catch how the nursing and family caring in the assistance to the hospitalized child is outlined. Its objective is to understand how it has been conducted in real practice the involving of the family in this caring dimension. The field research was held through a semi-structured interview with the nursing staff of a school hospital. The analysis of the empirical material was submitted to an ordering, classification and the analysis itself. The results point out that the work performed by the staff has been a procedure centered in such way that the interaction with the child and the family is tangential to the process of caring in the hospital, subject of this study. The family has shared the caring, many times imposed by the staff and has not been involved in the caring as a co-worker, nor as an object of caring.
