Abstract
This paper is a preliminary study about health services in shelters that receive children in circumstances of social abandonment. Its objective is to identify the health professionals who act in these entities and the kind of health attendance that children obtain. This research was conducted through data collection during interviews with representatives of fifteen shelters in São Paulo city. It revealed not only that those health professionals who act in shelters develop voluntary work, but also that although children find health attendance in both these entities and other community’ resources, it is not a systemized health promotion attendance.
