Abstract

Objective:

Analyze the work process of the Health Strategy of the Family-HSF male nurses during the care to the postpartum woman and the newborn; to characterize HSF male nurses profile the qualification needs.

Methods:

The study is of exploratory-descriptive type, with quantitative approach, accomplished in the municipal district of Sobral – Ceará, in the period of April to June, 2007, with 33 male nurses of the HSF.

Results:

The principal results: We saw that 100% observe and assess the overall status of mothers and newborns, 97% asked about the general state of the mother and the newborn and possible complications, and the booklet notes and analyzes data from the child – weight, length, head circumference, APGAR scoring, administration and plug perinatal; and values during the visit and healthy practices and praises the puerperal or caregiver.

Conclusiones:

The nurses’ practices are focused on postpartum newborn and family clinical care and health promotion.
