Abstract

While professional from industrial areas had started to know that errors can be preventable events, in the health system some continue to believe that these events are characterized as isolated. However, an increasing number of scientific and epidemiological data make it clear to the scientific community and healthcare professionals that errors are present in the healthcare system and that patient safety is a global problem. Prevention systems must be developed to improve results. This study had the aim of describe the value of the information technology in the prevention of medication errors in pediatric patients, being distinguished the use of computerized order, bar code and smart infusion pumps, for being technologies that can assist to prevent medication errors related to nursing care, because they can take steps from the planning until the accomplishment of the drug therapy.
