DOI: 10.31508/1676-379320220015
Abstract
Objective
To evaluate the quality of medical records regarding the use of non-pharmacological methods to relieve pain and stress in neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Methods
Documentary, retrospective and quantitative study, with analysis of medical records of neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (n=184). Electronic medical records of newborns (zero to 28 days) admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the selected institution were included, in the period from January 2019 to December 2020, who underwent an invasive and painful procedure during this period of hospitalization. Data were tabulated and analyzed, with the help of a professional statistician, through descriptive analysis and simple and relative frequencies of the variables of interest to the study.
Results
Of the non-pharmacological methods applied, the one with the highest percentage of use was skin-to-skin contact (n=103; 57.98%). They were applied mostly by the nursing team, with a total of 122 (66.3%) neonates who received the application from nurses or nursing technicians.
Conclusion
The methods have shown to make care more humanized, reduced the use of medication and increased the quality of life of neonates hospitalized in a neonatal intensive care unit environment.
