Abstract
Based on the care to the child centered in the family and on Gramsci’s theory of common sense and Freire’s main ideas, we depict the nurse-educator’s role near the technology-dependent children’s families. The multicase study allowed us to grasp the group’s life realitu during the home visit. The children who leave the pediatric intensive care unit stay at home using a technological device due to gastrostomy, tracheostomy and colostomy. As a result, theirs families need to learn nursing interventions which do not belong to commom sense, besides conping with a great medication regimen and side effects. So, the nurse intermediates two kings of knowledge (scientific and popular) theat help one to overcome concepts and practices theat were not constructed basec on common sense.
