To review articles related to the nutrition of premature babies and low birth weight in the period 2005 to 2010, the studies found to characterize and analyze the data found in the selected studies.

Methods:

We conducted an integrative literature review in the data bases LILACS, BIREME and PUBMED using as keywords the terms of prematurity, low birth weight, nutrition and feeding. We used an instrument for data collection. The research resulted in a sample of 14 articles.

Results:

The articles were characterized according to the type of study, country where it was held, which was published in the journal and the database where it was found. The analysis of the studies resulted in two categories.

Conclusion:

Nutrition is an important contribution element in proper growth and development of preterm infants, and should be introduced as soon as possible to avoid future consequences.
