Oral glucose 25% use in pain relief in the newborn: integrative review

Abstract

Objective

The aim of this scientific production is to analyze the use of oral glucose 25% as pain relief method in the newborn.

Methods

Integrative review that included indexed articles on the databases: Latin American and Caribbean Center for Information on Health Sciences, Culmulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, National Center for Biotechnology Information and EMBASE. The descriptive results analysis was separated in two analytical categories.

Results

Publications which subjects involved use related aspects of oral glucose 25% compared to others pain relief methods.

Conclusion

Oral glucose 25% is effective in relieving pain of the newborn during procedures, evidenced by assessment instruments used, however some aspects need to be considered for its implementation in practice.
