Abstract

The research was developed by nurse students from the first semester of Escola de Enfermagem Anna Nery Nursing, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (EEAN.UFRJ) enrolled in a Interdepartamental Curricula Program called PCI-I. That first training experience in practical field was implemented with school age children among six and fifteen years old, who were subscripted of second and fourth grade of elementary school named Colégio de Aplicação, Instituto Superior de Educação do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro city. The study has an objectives as follow: characterizing the most common health pupils problem, determining health impairments showed by them which are possible to discuss in a health education intervention and developing a health education to promote a better quality of life. From 230 pupils physical assessment, it depicted a sort of health impairment, such as deficit oral hydration (75.21%); oral disorders like dental caries (31.30%), tartar (23.47%), bad hygienic habits (21.30%); and onicofagy (40.0%) and visual impairment (32.8%). We concluded that the primary care developed by nurse student can contribute to the improvement of their quality of life and also to learning teaching process about school health children.
