Abstract
This investigation had the objective to characterize the occurrence of respiratory diseases in day-care centers and to explore associations with delivery care. It was carried through in two teaching day-care centers, placed in the same region of the city of Sao Paulo, which attends the same population. The data on the children up to 5 years that had attended the day-care centers in 2003 were gathered in children’s records and others documentation available in these places, and compared with both centers. There was great variation of the episodes of disease, such as has been found in other studies. The rate of episodes of respiratory illnesses was 0.91 per child-year in the day-care center A and 1.69 per child-year in day-care center B. According to the analyzed characteristics, was only suggestive the association between occurrence of illnesses and greater number of children in the day-care center. There are necessary more detailed studies for better understanding on the impact of the care in the situation of health of children who frequent institutions of childhood education.
