Abstract

This study, of qualitative approach, aimed to describing the mother’s conceptions about the kangaroo method and discussing the expression ways in implementing it. The data were collected by means of a semi-structured interview with ten mothers of premature babies. The mothers have two conceptions about kangaroo method: a scientific one, transmitted by the professionals, and a subjective one, which concerns what she learned in the relations she began to establish at that moment, and her psychological involvement is essential to the development of the method. The health professionals should maintain a good relationship with the mother’s, they should consider them as human beings, with feelings and values which are peculiar to them and which will determine their behavior.
