Abstract

Thisstudy aims to assess the work of the nurse in the care of children and adolescents victims of violence who are sheltered by the “Serviço de Acolhimento Institucional – SAI” (governmental institution responsible for child protection). This hermeneutical qualitative evaluation was based on the methodological triangulation of three parameters: field diary about the researcher’s experience with the nurse in the institution, semi-structured interviews with the technical team of SAI and analysis of internal documents of the service. After the data collection, the records were organized by theme, highlighting the points regarding the management of the work in the health care of children and adolescents, resulting in four categories: contextualizing SAI; support networks; characteristics and demand of the institutionalized children and adolescents; and the work of the nurse in the institution. It was observed that the presence of the nurse is critical to the direct and indirect care, for his/her articulation with the support networks and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team in the care of children and adolescents in situation of violence.
