Abstract
When this qualitative study, with a phenomenological – hermeneutic orientation was carried out, we could observe the behavior of nine infants in their relational dynamic with their mothers while they were receiving massage. The phenomenological reduction was performed to search for the essence of the phenomenon, from the description of the undergraduate student – researcher, to answer the following guiding question: Describe how the development of the infants’ behavior during the massage is demonstrated. The units of meaning indicate how they communicate their needs and emotions, making contact through facial expressions, guttural sounds, postures, active movement of limbs and also through crying. Through an intentional experience, the study enabled to develop theme structures that present the human ability of evolving babies, indicating that when nurses increase the importance of the subject in the process to build knowledge, they are favoring the understanding of care humanization.
