Abstract

Objective

To evaluate the degree of implementation of the best practices of immediate care to healthy newborns of vaginal delivery in three public childbirth centers of the city of Rio de Janeiro, with different care models to women at delivery and birth.

Method

A normative evaluative study was developed with an implementation analysis. Data were collected from June to December 2016.

Results

The traditional model did not present an adequate degree of implementation in any of the analyzed categories. In the collaborative model the care to be postponed still proved inadequate but adequate in relation to out-of-home care and recommended direct care. The delivery room presented an adequate degree of implementation of good practices in all categories analyzed.

Conclusion

The care model practiced in the obstetric center showed a lower proportion of the use of good practices of care to newborns and the home with a greater proportion of these, so it is possible to show that the units studied have different levels of implementation of such care, which vary according to the care model.
