Abstract
Violence in childhood is a phenomenon of great magnitude that contributes to increasing demand for care in public health services. In front of this context, the objectives were to describe the scientific production about the violence in childhood, emphasizing the prospects and challenges for Nursing action. This is an integrative literature review, through research articles in scientific databases Medline and Lilacs. Were analyzed 19 papers published between 2003-2013, using the following descriptors: violence; child maltreatment; Nursing. The scientific literature on the subject has been divided into three categories: the characterization of the types of violence (26%), acting skills of health professionals (42%) and identification of cases and assist victims (32%). The performance of Nursing should be part of collective actions under an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on preventive strategies. The main challenges relate to difficulty in detecting cases of violence and implementation of prevention strategies in health services.
