Abstract
Objective:
To analyze the reasons why mothers do not take their children to childcare consultation, characterizing their social and demographic profile.
Methods:
An exploratory qualitative research was conducted with sixteen mothers of infants assisted at a Family Health Center located in a Brazilian city named Sobral-on the State of Ceará. Data collection took place through individual semi structured interviews.
Results:
Most mothers had more than 25 years old, housewives, married, with education at elementary level, and poor income. The reasons which led them not to take their children to the childcare consultation were grouped by similarities of speech resulting in six categories: forgot the day, was not warned, had no time; don’t agreeing with the schedule time; don’t considering the consultation relevant and others.
Conclusions:
The results showed the need to act on the reality of these mothers, offering them as well as information on health service facilities in order to sensitize them to join the consultations.
