Abstract

Objective

To describe the experience of third year undergraduate students in childcare appointment in a primary healthcare clinic, from the perspective of the supervisors.

Method

This is a teaching experience report, from a public university in the state of São Paulo, in which it is presented the present dynamics of activities with students and their repercussions in the learning process.

Results

Key challenges include interacting with the family and the child, and developing approaching strategies with them. Among the skills acquired in the period, we can see a gradual increase in students regarding their ability to relate contents of the theory, physical examination and evaluation techniques in practice. Also, they have demonstrated ability to detect problems, developing educational and intervention strategies to address them and strengthen the capabilities.

Conclusion

A childcare appointment develops skills and knowledge, showing the importance of the nursing work in prevention and health promotion. The supervised practice of childcare appointments strengthens nursing education and should be encouraged.
